Arrogance is associated with unbelief because:
1. It takes arrogance to view one’s own thinking or the thinking
of any fallible human as the ultimate authority for reality.
2. To remove God from the realm of reality is to assert an
overarching knowledge of reality, which is arrogance gone to
seed.
3. Arrogance boasts in the future without taking God’s will into
account
(James 4:14-16).
Since unbelief never takes God’s will into account when making
plans, then arrogance is the norm for unbelief.
4. Unbelief rejects grace, and the rejection of grace requires
pride
(1 Peter 5:5).
Arrogance assumes that God is neither necessary nor wanted, and
such is an unequivocal rejection of grace.
Arrogance and humility cannot coexist. “Humble yourselves in the
presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you”
(James. 4:10).
